Watch Your Bills drop with a new heat pump water heater

Heat pump water heaters are one of most exciting technical shifts in water heating in decades. They save roughly 75% energy versus a normal electrical water heater, and more than gas and electric tankless units as well. We love installing these for customers as part of a total home net zero or home electrification project.

And if you’re needing to replace your existing water heater anyway, now is the perfect time to switch.

Why install a heat pump water heater?

It’s true that there are many benefits to heat pump water heaters beyond just energy savings. Here are some extras to consider:

  • Take advantage of federal tax credits and local rebates, often adding up to thousands.
  • Leads to lower utility bills.
  • Less maintenance – new HPWH’s have a 10+ year warranty.
  • Since it pulls heat out of the air, it can actually help cool your home in the summer (a little bit).
  • Potentially higher home value due to a more green home and lower energy costs.
  • Multiple water heating modes and wifi connectivity for total control over your water heating.

save thousands of dollars on solar panels

did you know?

Did you know that we can save you thousands of dollars of solar not needed by first installing a heat pump water heater. How is this possible?

This is because the heat pump technology saves so much energy heating water versus conventional water heaters, that if you’re looking to go solar, you can save thousands of dollars due to needing a much smaller solar panel system. When you don’t need to use as much energy, you can also cut down on your renewable energy needs as a bonus.

We love designing full net zero and home electrification systems for you that save money and just make sense. Heat pump water heaters are a big part of this overall holistic energy planning.

Air Sealing and Insulation Service

Insulation and air sealing goes hand and hand savings energy on the water heater. The fact is, all these projects tag-team off of each other. Done together, we can save energy across the board. It also starts with a good energy audit, which we suggest doing also.

While the up front cost of heat pump water heaters are more than traditional ones, the rebates, incentives, and yearly energy savings catch up to what you would otherwise spend in energy pretty fast. A heat pump water heater install usually costs between $3,000 and $6,000 depending on sizing, install details, and net incentive amounts.

Two big things to know are that they do make a bit of noise, more like a low hum when they are on. Due to this, we are conscious of where they go in your home so that they don’t bug you in any way.

Another thing to know is that since they pull ambient heat out and around of the surrounding air of the room they are in, they need some space to operate correctly. This usually means 700+ cubic feet of volume in the room, or about a 10×10 normal room for the airflow required. We can also add ducts to the heat pump unit to channel air more efficiently if needed.
